ANPR - High-Speed FreeFlow

ANPR High-Speed FreeFlow is designed for open roads and highways where vehicles travel above 80 km/h. It uses a global shutter camera triggered by a radar sensor to capture sharp, blur-free plate images at high speed. The radar detects an approaching vehicle and fires the camera at the precise moment for a clean read. Deployed on a Pixuate edge device at the roadside.

Prerequisites & Limitations

What ANPR - High-Speed FreeFlow needs to run reliably, and the operating limits to plan for.

Prerequisites

  • Global-shutter camera strongly recommended to freeze fast-moving vehicles without motion blur (standard IP cameras are limited to ~80 km/h)
  • Adequate scene illumination — pair with an IR illuminator for reliable night capture at speed
  • Stable bandwidth between camera and edge/server — roughly 4–8 Mbps per 2MP stream, higher for high-resolution global-shutter feeds
  • One camera per lane on a gantry or pole, aligned for a sharp plate view at distance
  • Stable power and network at the roadside cabinet

Operating Limits

Factor Edge Server
Incident / event capture rate≤ ~5 events per second≤ ~20 events per second
Concurrent camera streams per node1–4 streams (Jetson TX2 / Orin)8–16+ streams
Minimum plate character height in frame≥ ~20 px≥ ~20 px
Event-to-alert latency< ~1 s on-deviceDepends on network round-trip

Indicative figures — actual limits depend on hardware, scene, and configuration.
