Crowd Detection
Detects and monitors crowd formation and density in public spaces, transit hubs, and venues from overhead or elevated IP cameras. Estimates crowd density and headcount in real time and triggers graduated alerts when crowd levels approach or exceed safe capacity — before situations escalate.
Key Features
Discover the powerful capabilities that make Crowd Detection stand out
Real-time crowd density estimation from IP cameras
Headcount approximation per defined zone
Graduated capacity alerts — warning then critical as limits are approached
Configurable density and occupancy threshold per zone
Zone-based monitoring with independent capacity limits
Crowd growth-rate detection — early warning before threshold breach
Heatmap visualisation of crowd density over time
Integration with PA systems, digital signage, and access control
Occupancy trend data for capacity planning
Edge deployment for on-site, low-latency processing

Detailed technical information about Crowd Detection
Prerequisites & Limitations
What Crowd Detection needs to run reliably, and the operating limits to plan for.
Prerequisites
- Camera: 2MP+ IP/RTSP, overhead or elevated, covering the crowd area — height and angle affect density-estimation accuracy
- Adequate illumination — pair with an IR illuminator for night monitoring
- Stable bandwidth between camera and edge/server — roughly 4–8 Mbps per 2MP H.264/H.265 stream
- Elevated/overhead mounting for an unobstructed wide view of the crowd
- Stable power and network at the deployment point
Operating Limits
Indicative figures — actual limits depend on hardware, scene, and configuration.
